A retreat that’s beyond words

I fondly remember how I used to think that retreats are just food trips and nothing more. Growing up as a person who studied in Catholic schools, retreats became boring for me and frankly, I never learned anything from it and I was so grateful when I had a choice not to join them in college.

I first found out about Fun in the Son (Victory Alabang Singles retreat in Boracay) when I visited the website last year. It wasn’t announced yet that time and I guess I’m one of the few who learned about it first. When I landed my first job, I religiously paid for it little by little. It wasn’t easy. P500 per pay day is no joke.

June of this year, I decided to quit my job for very personal reasons. Because of this, I had to pull out the money that I paid for the retreat. Being the tough girl that I’m, I decided not to feel heartbroken about it.

However, when the retreat was just one week away God gave me the money to pay for it - Thank you, Lord! So at the last minute I was able to pay for the retreat and guess what, I was able to stay there for six days and five nights. Talk about provisions!

The last time that I was in Boracay was ten years ago. I was with my family and relatives. I was a little girl back then who had a blast with my biological family and this time around I’m an adult who shared something fruitful with my SPIRITUAL family. The retreat was not just about fun, we had sessions and activities and worshipped God at the middle of the beach while singing songs like Chris Tomlin’s Indescribable. Truly, God’s creations are beyond words. We didn’t care if we all looked weird while praising God in front of people. It was heartwarming to praise Him right in front of His creation – the lovely white beach, the stars and the sky…the beauty we all call Boracay. I felt a tear on my cheek afterwards.

As I write this entry, I’m still jobless and now officially bankrupt, but I’m still proud to say that the money that I spent was worth it. This is the kind of retreat that you should definitely save up for. And God, thank you because I realized that for the past three years I’ve been traveling both here and abroad despite the fact that I’m a poor girl. Lol! You truly amaze me with Your blessings!

Next stop: Missions trip to Tacloban and Beijing, China! The Singles are planning to go on local and international missions next year. We’re getting ready to ‘expand our tents’… yahoo!
